The concept of creating a social documentation in relation to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee began in early 2012. Having considered several ideas the final choice was influenced by an exhibition of the early work of Daniel Meadows.
In 1973, fresh out of art school, Daniel Meadows drove a double decker bus around the country and photographed people in the street. His images, viewed 40 years later, are not only great portraits but also a documentation of that time. I decided to create a collection of portraits that would also, in years to come, be a record for future generations to reflect on.
The Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II was celebrated between the 2nd and the 5th of June 2012. Over that period I photographed local people and visitors ‘as they were’ on that historic weekend. The portraits are intended to capture both individuality and strength of community.
